Catching Waves at Surf Schools using PerfectSwell® Wave Pool Tech

American Wave Machines’ wave pool technology is making surfing accessible outside the ocean. PerfectSwell® surf pools produce the world’s best man-made waves, enabling rapid skill progression for all levels, from beginners to pros. Beyond pay for surf and sponsorship revenues, American Wave Machines powered surf parks are the ideal venue for surf schools.

Skudin Surf School at the American Dream Mall

At the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the Skudin Surf School is providing lessons using PerfectSwell® technologies. From beginners who are just learning how to surf to advanced surfers who wish to improve their technique, anybody can book a private session with local surf instructors. With an ability to swim as the only prerequisite, their private sessions include all equipment and hands-on instruction that will guarantee an ability to surf waves independently by the end of the session. Advanced surfers can utilize coaching offered by the Surf School to work on their advanced techniques.

Adjustable waves to fit all surfers

PerfectSwell® technology is the ultimate platform for learning how to surf. To start, the waves can be controlled to specifically meet the needs of the client. For first-time surfers, PerfectSwell® can produce slow rolling waves perfect for learning. As new surfers start to get the hang of things, PerfectSwell® gives users the ability increase the size and power of the waves gradually at the pace of that specific surfer’s needs.

Wave consistency

Another aspect of PerfectSwell® technology that has become a game changer when learning how to surf is the ability to set the “consistency” of waves. One of the hardest things about learning how to surf in the ocean is paddling out past the breaking waves. By eliminating this massive challenge, the learning curve for new surfers is dramatically decreased in a PerfectSwell® wave pool.

Accelerated skill progression

For advanced and professional surfers, having the ability to practice maneuvers over and over again on the same wave in a PerfectSwell® wave pool has proven to be instrumental for accelerated skill progression. In the ocean, where no two waves are alike, practicing new maneuvers and techniques is extremely difficult. By providing repetition, PerfectSwell® has opened up the door for surfers to practice new tricks and make small adjustments until they master the maneuver. From there they can take their skills to the ocean.

Fueling the next generation

You can really see the value of the ability to practice surfing using PerfectSwell® technology when you look at what young kids are doing in the pool. There are 10-year-olds learning aerial maneuvers after one hour in a wave pool, a trick that would normally have taken them years to master. PerfectSwell® wave pools are elevating the performance level of surfing to places that would have otherwise been impossible to achieve in the ocean. It will be exciting to see what the future holds as more young surfers will have the opportunity to surf in wave pools around the world.

A positive experience for all

Through positive surf experiences, even for first-timers, PerfectSwell® powered surf venues draw repeat visitors. In any weather, the waves are always breaking perfectly and can be adjusted to the skill level of the clientele. After a Skudin Surf School lesson in the PerfectSwell® wave pool, Diana Garrett, co-owner of Surfset NYC said “We had the best time surfing…The water/air are warm, conditions are always consistent and glassy, and there are waves for all levels.”
