Team USA Trains at PerfectSwell® Shizunami

As surfing is about to make history in its Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, Team USA had the opportunity to train at PerfectSwell® Shizunami in Makinohara, Japan. Surfers Carissa Moore, Caroline Marks, John John Florence, and Kolohe Andino visited the pool as part of their training camp in mid-July leading up to the Olympic competition to be held at Tsurigasaki beach in Chiba, Japan. Medals will be awarded during the competition window between July 25 and August 1.

What did the athletes have to say after their PerfectSwell® experience?

“It’s nice to get some waves right off the plane, surf a new wave pool, try out some new boards, and get a bunch of reps. Everyone is ripping. It’s really fun.” – Caroline Marks

“Getting to train in the wave pool before heading to the Olympic venue in Chiba gave me a lot of repetition and a bit of confidence going into the event window.” – Carissa Moore

“The pool has been super fun. For me it’s been really good because I’m coming out of an injury right now so just to slowly push a little harder and harder and have the same thing over and over again is pretty cool because you have so much control over it. It’s amazing for repetition and timing.” – John John Florence

American Wave Machines wishes Team USA the best of luck!
