Four new PerfectSwell® waves unveiled at Boa Vista Village before AWM breaks ground in Sao Paulo and Florida
One day, Brazilians will rule the sport of surfing. Oh wait, they already do. Let’s try this again… One day, Brazil will have a World Tour stop. (Oh yeah, it already does.) But wait, this World Tour stop won’t be a beachbreak in Rio or Saquarema or even idyllic Fernando de Noronha. It will be at a manmade wave, far away from the Atlantic Ocean in Boa Vista Village. The craziest wave pool on Earth.
But maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
In 2022, American Wave Machines brought their premier, patent-protected technology to Brazil when the real estate development company JHSF commissioned the largest PerfectSwell® surf pool to date — six acres, nearly double the size of previous installations. “Basically, they wanted a wave pool, so we went and built it for them,” Rob Kelly simplifies. Arguably New Jersey’s marquee professional surfer, Rob also serves as the Brand Manager, helping commission and market the pools and assembling the surfers and shooters needed to exhibit the phenomenon. After test-shredding the SurfStream standing wave in New Hampshire in 2013, Rob kept his foot in the door as AWM developed American Dream in New Jersey, and over the past two years he’s shifted from ambassadorial moonlighter to a more full-time role with the company.
