PerfectSwell® wave pool technology provides the most realistic surfing experience outside the ocean. American Wave Machines aims to create high quality waves for all levels of surfers from beginner to pro. While most beginner surfers will have fun surfing different types of slow rolling waves, professional surfers need a lot more to satisfy their surfing needs. There is no better stamp of approval, as far as wave quality goes, than from a professional surfer who has traveled to surf all the best waves at the best surf spots around the globe. Let’s get to know some of these high-level pros and what they have to say about the waves created by PerfectSwell® surf technology.
Albee Layer is a multifaceted surfer and at the forefront of both big wave and above-the-lip surfing. He is a WSL Big Wave World Tour competitor and cemented his place as one of the most innovative aerial surfers in the world after completing the first ever double alley-oop. Growing up in the wave-rich island of Maui, his standards of a good air section are a notch higher than most. Here is what he had to say about the air section after surfing PerfectSwell®.
Chippa Wilson attributes his surfing style to skateboarding. Inspired by the technical aspect of skateboarding, Chippa has one of the biggest bags of tricks in the sport. For this reason, it is no surprise that he was able to use that to his advantage to win the Van’s Stab High competition held in the PerfectSwell® wave pool at BSR. While he is known more as a free surfer than a competitive surfer, Chippa sees the use of wave pools elevating the level of surf competition to new heights and that has enticed him to throw on a jersey for a couple of specialty events.
Mason Ho is credited as one of the most fun surfers to watch in the world. Mason is the son and nephew of the legendary Hawaiian brothers Michael and Derek Ho and has continued to follow in their footsteps. Mason has a unique ability to look at waves that most people would never think to surf and figure out a way to surf them. From dry rock reef slabs to crazy wedges Mason can find a line to surf pretty much any type of wave. His go-for-it attitude in all types of surf conditions has elevated the sport and pushed the boundaries of what is possible. Having a wave pool and an endless supply of perfect waves at his disposal will certainly speed up his process of growing the sport and he touches on that in this clip.
Kevin Schulz was somewhat of a dark horse when his sponsor entered him into the second Stab High event held on PerfectSwell®. He quickly became a household name after sticking the first proper maneuver ever completed on the “Freak Peak”. After landing that flip, the internet went wild, and it was clear that Kevin was not one to take lightly in the competition. He would go on to take 2nd place behind Chippa Wilson and earn his reputation as one of the top air guys in the country. Here is Kevin’s perspective of that flip seen around the world and how PerfectSwell® let him finally land a trick he spent so much time trying in the ocean.
The Geiselman brothers are highly decorated competitive surfers that both have a free-surfing pedigree that has secured them major parts in some of the sport’s renowned films. Having the ability to both win contests and produce video clips has led to opportunities to travel the world and surf a larger variety of waves than the average pro surfer. This includes many of the different types of wave pools around the world. Here are their thoughts and comparisons after surfing a session on PerfectSwell®.
Matt Meola is one of the best free-surfers in the world. Growing up surfing some of the best air waves on the island of Maui has given Matt a platform to star in many surf films and produce some mind-blowing video clips. Anytime Matt drops an edit, the world watches. He is on a short list of surfers to complete a double spin, along with Albee Layer and Kelly Slater, and has been a recurring invite at Stab High and World Surf League Airborne events. Matt has spent a good amount of time down in Texas surfing the PerfectSwell® wave pool at BSR and had this to say about the waves there.
